In recent years Gundam shows have been met with positive reception. Old series are being re-released and new ones are streaming. In 2015 the newest Gundam series debuted, Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans, which has brought Gundam into a new phase. It addresses modern aspects of war including the poverty caused by war and the use of children soldiers. Due to the major success of the first season, a second season has begun to stream in October of 2016, continuing the story.
Recap:
Season One of Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans focuses on the formation and various partnerships and skirmishes that Tekkadan faces. Tekkadan in many respects was formed by chance as Kudelia Aina Bernstein came to CGS with a mission. Her mission, which is to be escorted to Earth to advocate for Mars to gain independence, is interrupted by the earth federation forces Gjallarhorn. As a result, CGS abandons their mission and uses their children soldiers as a diversion to escape. Orga, realizes this and organizes the other children around him. He successfully defends and takes over CGS (renames it Tekkadan). As his first act as the leader of Tekkadan he takes Kudelia mission. In order for the mission to be a success Orga seeks out the help of the Teiwaz Company who are known for smuggling items without Gjallarhorn detecting them. In gaining their help and support, which includes economic and military perks, Tekkadan becomes an official member of the Teiwaz group, as they face and eliminate the Brewers a group of space pirates. Furthermore, the Teiwaz group helps to provide support for Tekkadan to land on Earth so that they may complete their mission by helping to break the Gjallarhorn blockade. Landing on Earth, Tekkadan takes another mission, which is to escort former Prime Minister of Arbrau Makanai to a parliamentary election. If he shows up, he will be voted in as the new Prime Minister, which would damage Gjallarhorn’s control over Earth. Tekkadan transports him, along with Kudelia and Gjallarhorn engages with them in various battles resulting in casualties for Tekkadan as they transport them to the election. Successfully transporting them Makanai becomes the new Prime Minister of Arbrau, while Kudelia is one step closer to achieving Mars’ independence. Tekkadan despite suffering major losses has established a name.
What to expect Season Two:
Season Two established that Tekkadan’s action has changed the political landscape on Earth. In particular, with Makanai being elected Prime Minister of Arbrau, Tekkadan has been named as his official military advisor. They are recognized as a military group by a major power, which provides them with certain immunities and name recognition. This new honor they have expanded as they have opened up an earth branch as their name and business is growing. At the same time they have grown, Gjallarhorn military might has diminished as they have lost the trust of the people. Various groups have decided to raise up against them using mobile suits and other weapons. Thus indicating that the era of peace that Gjallarhorn has controlled is at an end. As a result, we are sure to see more jobs that are dealing with these various groups handled by Tekkadan as they attempt to continue to make a name and gain recognition.
