The Silver Guardian is an anime that looks simple on the surface, yet has a thought-provoking plot. As the anime centers around how the use of video games brings Suigin and Rei closer to one another. Throughout the anime we witness how their relationship begins and continues to expand. This anime attempts to tell a story that highlights how technology is allowing for the real world and virtual world to become closer.
Summary:
Suigin and Rei are students at Shinryou Private Academy who share a love for video games, yet the two have never interacted with each other. Suigin is poor, has no family, and has various part time jobs to fund his schooling. Rei on the other hand is the daughter of a rich businessman who owns and creates video games. Despite their differences Suigin and Rei manage to connect in the virtual world as they are playing at the same time. During this interaction Suigin saves Rei from being killed, thus allowing for them to form a friendship, as she is thankful to him. Eventually this friendship continues as they both go on adventures and hang out in the virtual world together. As the relationship is being expanded in this virtual world, it slowly starts to seep into the real world. This allows for the relationship between Suigin and Rei to grow to a new level. As their relationship is growing it is constantly shifting between the virtual world and the real world, allowing for the two to be combined.
What to expect:
It is clear from the start that video games are going to be acting as a medium throughout the entire anime. In particular, how Suigin and Rei’s relationship has started in the virtual world as they are playing video games together. This is due to the idea that the only thing that matters in that world is your level of skill. As more skill is shown between Suigin and Rei it is assumed the closer they will become. As they become closer more information will be revealed about them as they learn who is behind the avatars they play. As more information is revealed it will slowly blur the lines between the real world and the virtual world forcing both of them to bring their relationship into the real world. In doing this it will influence events in both video games (virtual world) and the real world which, will impact their relationship with one another. Ultimately, this anime will fuse the virtual world and the real world. This shows how both are connected and will lead to a greater relationship.
