Starfire issue 3 the good, the bad, the verdict

Fans who follow DC Comics have mixed feeling about the current storylines. There is no question that issue 3 is better than issue 2 yet the same problem occurs as there are high points and low points. This places the reader into conflict as they love certain parts, but hate others. The comic is improving but it is very slow on correcting the mistakes it has made in previous issues.

The Good:

This issue introduces 3 new elements to the comic. Two of these elements are villains, while the third is a new superhero. The first villain introduced is a man named Soren, who is a complicated villain. He was rescued by a cruise ship and discovered the crew had been killed by the people on board. Based on his own moral justice he killed the remaining people on the ship, thus making him a moral-type villain for the comic’s story to build upon. The other villain known as the Chida monster has eaten 2 humans. This monster began to attack Starfire and the newly introduced Atlee. The Chida monster attacks Atlee and as she is a new superhero teaming up with Starfire they address the threat of the Chida monster. These three elements allow for the story of Starfire to be expanded in an organic way that allows for character development of Starfire and the three new characters.

The Bad:

The comic’s pacing has a flaw in its development. The story starts off at a very high speed and energetic level slowing down in the middle and picking up at the end. The pacing does not make sense with the story that is trying to be conveyed. Furthermore, the middle of the comic sees to be unnecessary regarding what the comic is attempting to set up for the next few issues. The middle of the comic appeared to be a tangent and was used to fill pages, with fun interactions, but nothing that affects the story overall. This style of writing shows that the writers do not have enough content for the character Starfire.

The Verdict:

The comic was undoubtedly better than it predecessor. This comic had both great elements and elements that were below par. The comic did introduce 3 new characters while progressing the overall story arc. By introducing these characters, Kori’s character was not hurt but rather improved. Conversely, the comic had a slow pace in the middle, which makes the middle component of the comic fun to read, but irrelevant to the story. Starfire issue 3 is better than issue 2 and is a great read if you are a fan or looking for a different comic. It is an above average comic but can improve in many aspects.
