RWBY Volume 3 episode 10 review

Unknown-5

RWBY Volume 3 has been different than previous seasons, which can be purchased here, due to increase in mature and adult themes. The 3rd volume focuses on how Team RWBY and the other students in Beacon Academy are beginning to transition from being children to becoming adults. Episode 10 in particular captures this as the students of Beacon embark on the path that will lead them to become Huntresses and Huntsmen as their home is under attack.

Episode 10 immediately shows that Ruby is prepared to be a huntress as she goes to save Pyrrha from an attack by a Nevermore. Upon Ruby’s first scuffle with the Nevermore she is joined by her fellow students and as a team make quick work of the Nevermore. After killing the Nevermore they meet General Ironwood who states that they have two choices. One is to fight these Grimm creatures, another is to run away and try to survive. As a result of his speech General Ironwood views his students as compatriots as they are choosing to defend their home. Thus this is the first transition to becoming Huntresses and Huntsmen. This results in Ruby and her follow students waiting for a ship to return them to Beacon as they witness General Ironwood’s plane being shot down, due to his robot soldiers turned against him. This forces Ruby to leave her fellow students behind and use her weapon pod as a means of transportation to stop Roman Torchwick’s ship. Thus this shows that Ruby has an understanding of what is important as she is acting as a leader not only for her team but to try to help mitigate damage to the academy. While this decision is being made Ozpin locates Pyrrha as she has a decision to be make. Pyrrha’s decision is complicated as it would require her to absorb Amber’s power which would change who she is both physically and mentality. This would lead to the consequences of her ending all relationships in particular with Jaune Arc. Thus Pyrrha has a different type of adult decision to make as she has to choose between her happiness or the safety of an entire continent. Episode 10 pulls no punches as the students of Beacon Academy are faced with a variety of choices as they engage in their first battle as Huntresses and Huntsmen.

Episode 10 of Volume 3 ushers in a new era of RWBY. This era is darker than previous volumes as the students of Beacon are forced to make choices. They have begun to transition from being children to becoming adults as circumstances have presented a life and death situation as Beacon is attacked. Furthermore, in the case of Ruby and Pyrrha they both have made choices that will influence their lives and the people around them as they have chosen to put the many before the one. This shows a level of maturity that both these characters have. The 10th episode of Volume 3 of RWBY utilizes a darker and sinister plot to bring out how the characters are becoming adults.
