Earth One Teen Titans are like the X-Men

The Teen Titans and the X-Men, since entering the comic world, have been compared to one another. Both of the Superhero teams have shared a few comic books over the years. Just recently, the book Teen Titan Earth One, Volume 1 has been published. Teen Titans Earth One, much like Batman and Superman Earth One, is a re-launch of the series for a modern time. The Teen Titans is a different type of comic produced by DC, and the book reads very similar in style to an X-Men comic.

Both the Teen Titans and the X-Men have been around for decades and it is no surprise they would intersect each other. Previously the two comics have crossed paths and even shared a cover together (September 1982). The beginning of Earth One for the Teen Titans focuses on a group of scientists that obtained a mutant from outer space by the name of Starfire. Starfire, along with other elements, are used in homeless babies to cause them to be mutant. The same scientists who caused these mutations act as their parents. The story fast-forwards to high school where the four babies are now 16 and 17 years old and began to mutate into their powers. This is similar to the X-Men as mutants can randomly start to recognize their power at any age. Furthermore, many of the characters in the X-Men were in high school when their mutant powers were awakened. The Teen Titans, according to Earth One, and the X-Men share this similarity members of both teams were in high school when they received their mutant power.

The book addresses social issues, much like an X-Men comic. The Teen Titans and the X-Men look differently because they have mutant powers. In Earth One their parents view the four teenagers poorly until their mutant powers are unlocked. Once their powers unlocked their parents are happy but want to control and study them. The mutants in the X-Men have a similar fate, as most parents are happy that their children are not mutants and are greatly upset when they are. The parents are upset for their mutant children because of the discrimination and fate in possessing a power that cannot be controlled. Teen Titans, Earth One runs parallel to the X-Men as these mutant teenagers leave home, searching for answers and guidance to control their powers. The Teen Titan’s story has just begun, while the X-Men have a support system in place that helps mutant teenagers receive guidance and support. Both comics deal with acceptance and social issues of all people, but in particular teenagers.

Teen Titan’s, Earth One Volume 1 is a great read for all comic fans, but in particular for Marvel fans who want to get into the DC Comic Universe. The book has a X-Men/ Marvel style to it, from the social issues addressed in the comic to the execution of the artwork. The Teen Titans, Earth One, Volume 1 is a refreshing read and no knowledge of previous story plots are needed. The book is a great comic and read for all fans. It relates to social issues, teenagers, and is illustrated beautifully.
