Legend of Korra Book 4 (season 4) is premiering on October 3 on nick.com. In viewing the trailer it places an emphasis on bending scenes. The scenes focus on conflict between the Earth Kingdom’s metal clan and the Airbenders. In exploring these issues there are many reason why the two groups are in conflict. You can buy the third season of the Legend of Korra Here.
The first reason why the Airbenders and Metal Benders are in conflict is for power. The metal clan is ostracized by the earth kingdom and is part of their territory but considered to be independent. As a result they have no power within the earth kingdom. When Ba Sing Sa fell due to Zaheer it was an opportunity for the metal clan to gain power within the Earth Kingdom since chaos and no government existed. After Ba Sing Sa fell and Zaheer was defeated Tenzin announced that the Airbenders would be traveling to help other nations and benders alike. Tenzin, who is well aware of the political landscape, was referring to Ba Sing Sa when he made this speech. Since the metal clan wants to have power and the Airbenders are helping to restore government and order they are preventing the metal clan from taking over the Earth Kingdom. Conflict between the groups is inevitable.
The second reason the metal clan and the Airbenders are fighting each other is because the Airbenders have announced they will help keep the balance in the world till Korra recovers. This idea of exclusivity the Airbenders have by doing Korra’s job is very egotistical and must annoy the Metal Benders. This announcement must be eating away at the Metal Benders. They cannot take it any more and develop hatred for Airbenders. As a result are more prone to be in conflict when other factors are in play.
The third reason for conflict between the two groups is that Avatar Korra has been recovering. The one person who can maintain balance between the 2 groups is not able to do so. As a result both group’s tension has increased. Korra has both connections between the Airbenders and the metal clan. This incapacitates Korra from making any moves as she has allegiance to both. Korra’s allegiance takes her out of the physical confrontation and puts her in a more political diplomatic role, which is not her strong suit. As a result of the avatar recovering and being pushed toward a diplomatic side of the conflict, the avatar’s power is diminished as the conflict spins out of control.
The fourth season of avatar, The Legend of Korra, based off the trailer features two power house nations squaring off with one another. To make matters more interesting both of these nations are new to the political sphere and have a history with the current avatar, who has been on a semi-hiatus. Ultimately, this is a great set up for the fans to witness a fantastic season of The Legend of Korra. It addresses the issue of two nations colliding with one another and no governmental structure is present to prevent the clash.
