Oddly Normal issue 10 The Good, The Bad, The Verdict

The comic world is always changing as comic companies obtain new comics and drop old ones. Oddly Normal is no exception to this rule rather the comic has changed its distribution method. Oddly Normal, issue 10, will be the last issue that can be bought in print. The comic will be reformatted and continued in graphic novels with a possibility of digital releases each month. Issue 10 of Oddly Normal, establishes that the story has only begun and will continue for another 75 to 100 issues. This issue of Oddly Normal, like many of the issues, has its high points and its low points but overall leaves a reader satisfied.

The Good:

The comic introduces new characters in this issue. One of the new characters that Oddly meets is Tommy Tsunami who appears to be interacting with Oddly but is flirting with other girls instead. Everybody has experienced some social interaction with a person when they were speaking or waving to somebody else. Furthermore, this interaction sparks a love interest for Oddly that can be developed as the story progresses. The comic further explores Oddly’s relationships with her current friends, in particular Reggie. Reggie is on a sports team and has invited Oddly to watch one of his games. This implies that Reggie is interested in Oddly and is trying to impress and create some type of relationship between the two of them. This issue sets up the foundation for a love triangle to occur but does it in a simple way that readers of all ages can understand and relate to the feelings that the characters have.

The Bad:

The middle of the comic appears to be filler, consisting of different teachers talking while Oddly is reflecting to herself and her friends about her current situation. These two conversations are confusing, occurring at the same time about different subjects that overlap each other in a variety of ways that is crucial to the story. As a result of this overlap the two conversations tend to become confusing and blend together. The two conversations could have been smoother and separate from each other.

The Verdict:

Oddly Normal is a sweet, stress free comic with a simple, fun, adventurous story. Combine those elements with a new school, bold art style, and it generates a different comic, then what is currently available. Furthermore, the issue is relatable as Reggie is interested in Oddly while she is starting to develop a Crush on Tommy. Oddly Normal is not a perfect comic, will not satisfy all comic fans, but it is a unique comic book based on its story and art style. Oddly Normal is a fantastic read and issue 10 will be the last printed comic.
