Due to the success of the light novels in 2016 Junpei Inuzuka announced that an anime adaptation was in the works. A year after the announcement on July 3rd 2017 the anime began airing. It focuses on the interactions between Master, Aletta, and the several guests that come to patronize the restaurant.
The Summary:
The Western Restaurant Nekoya is a normal restaurant that is located in a Tokyo shopping center. The restaurant is open during business hours and is closed during the weekends and holidays. Yet, every Saturday from dusk to dawn a special door opens up allowing elves, dragons, animal men, creatures, and demons to enter the restaurant from another world. During this time the owner of the Western Restaurant Nekoya, Master, enjoys serving these different creatures as they appreciate and enjoy his cooking. One day, after Master had gone to bed, a door to the restaurant appeared in front of a demon named Aletta. She walked through, ate what was brewing on the stove, and fell a sleep within the kitchen. The next morning, after being found, Master offers her a job upon learning that she had been fired from her old one as a waitress, thus she begins to work there every Saturday. Aletta and Master are cooking for and serving Altorius, Tatsugorou, Red Queen, Sarah Gold and Heinrich Seeleman and the countless adventures they bring in each visit.
What to expect:
The anime is different from other shows as each episode is connected with the previous episode through the location of the restaurant Nekoya. Each episode focuses on 2 different characters as they tell their story about how they arrived at Nekoya and how it has changed their lives to the point that they have become regulars. Most of these stories are initially facilitated through Master’s cooking and Aletta’s waitressing. As a result, we begin to uncover why Master is respected and appreciated by his patrons for his cooking. At the same time, with each episode, Aletta becomes more accepted into the Nekoya atmosphere as one of their own as she hears all of the patron’s stories. It is expected by the end of the anime that Aletta will be accepted at the Nekoya as if she was always there.
